Hello! I’ve just released my debut album Nature’s Grace – a concept album heavily infused with natural found sounds – birdsong (with solos from the song thrush, blackbird and robin)), lambs, church bells, storm and tempest, bees and lawn mowers, and some nature inspired spoken word and some ‘human’ nature and advice from my grandparents from when they were in their 80s!
Two of the tracks have been played on national BBC radio – Radio 3 and 6 Music and another earlier single, my collaboration with THE Jackie Weaver (of zoom meeting fame) was featured on national TV (BBC News, Channel 5 news, Vine on 5, Radio 1 Newsbeat) as well as in the Guardian as well as lots of BBC regional plays and interviews.
I started making music this time last year, with no prior experience. For the past decade I’ve been promoting other artists in the acoustic and folk sectors but my own music couldn’t be more different! While I can play piano and violin I don’t perform on my tracks. I openly and unashamedly started with loops on Garageband and have recently migrated to Logic. I feel strongly that older women (in particular) should be encouraged to explore their perhaps unrealised creativity and am happy to be a flag bearer for older music creators. I would also like to see more older women being championed (and not just the ones who were famous younger and have been ever present – important though they are).
My output is varied, and sits across the spectrum from pastoral ‘prettiness’ to in yer face dance tracks which I would love to hear in a club one day! I have released three EP’s plus my aforementioned album and have another concept album in development for Christmas release (vox and harmony based, mostly a capella) and some more dance tracks to release, with my vocals on them. As you can see, I am gradually experimenting and being more bold, and pushing away my self built boundaries!. I am also about to attempt a mix of someone else’s track – they asked me to do it! (I turned down the last person who asked but have decided I really need to have a go). I’ve also been asked to ‘perform’ live three times and find that I love entertaining and ‘getting the party started’ at events! I am still very much a novice and feeling my way as I go. But loving the journey! I think kid in a sweetie shop describes me quite well. Or Kate Bush on acid (as someone said at a gig recently!).
Old enough to know better, young enough not to care!
Thanks for your time reading this. I hope there’s a place for me here somewhere! I look forward to finding out more about the F List!
