Louisa Kataria

Young and upcoming saxophonist Louisa Kataria studies at the Royal College of Music under Martin Robertson and as a Big Give Scholar.

As a soloist, she has won the woodwind categories of the St Albans Young Musician Competition (2017) and the Rickmansworth Young Musician Competition (2018), and in March 2019 she made her concerto debut with Glazunov’s Saxophone Concerto, conducted by Gonzalo Acosta. Orchestral accomplishments include performing Bernstein’s Mass in the Royal Festival Hall as the soprano saxophonist with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, under the direction of Marin Alsop. Louisa enjoys playing in chamber ensembles, and alongside regular commitments with her RCM Saxophone Quartet, she recently recorded Mátyás Seibers Jazzolettes in a specially formed sextet. Other frequent RCM appearances include in the RCM Big Band and RCM Sax Ensemble.

A multi-disciplined musician, Louisa is also an accomplished clarinettist, flautist, and singer. She is a former chorister of the St Albans Abbey Girls’ Choir and former member of the Royal Opera House Youth Opera Company. More recently, she has had membership with National Youth Choir of Great Britain, and she is a current member of the Rodolfus Choir. Louisa is part of newly-formed close harmony group, Stellina, with whom she has had numerous TV appearances.
