Clara Pople is a soul/trip hop looper with the lungs of a deep-sea diver, the heart of a Barbary Lion and the voice of an English choir girl. Blending influences as vast as early trip hop, electronica and folk, soulful avant-pop artist Clara Pople is definitely not defined by genre. Using a vocal looper to create densely layered harmonic backing and drawing on her choral and gospel background, Clara’s sings to make grown men weep.

Born and raised in Cumbria, Clara Pople won a music scholarship to a school where she was classically trained and achieved head chorister status at just 16. A place at the prestigious British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Manchester (BIMM) was swift to follow, where she also became a member of the Manchester Harmony Gospel Choir, and then in London, the London African Gospel Choir.

Clara’s music is centred around her voice. She discovered she could use it as both her instrument and her accompaniment creating dark bass lines, syncopated beatboxing rhythms and 6-part harmonies – all with her voice. The artist manipulates classical technique, gospel, and Bristol trip hop music to create darkly poetic unique and original songs.
