D3

D3 is a Spoken Word Artist who’s been performing on the live gig and festival scene for 20 years. Her real talk, themes of female empowerment and machine gun delivery make for a high-energythought-provoking performance!

History

Denetta enrolled at Lifeforce Productions to learn music production and achieved a merit in her Modern Music Productions Course. Denetta also tried her hand at radio presenting with Lifeforce Fm and East Leeds Fm, hosting breakfast and local talent shows, she went on to gain qualifications at BBC Radio Academy.

Denetta started working with the Leeds Young Authors from their birth in 2003. LYA is a writing workshop group that produced poetry for performance. LYA also competed in the Brave New Voices poetry slam held in U.S.A every year. Denetta accompanied teams as their coach, travelling with them to San Francisco and L.A.

Alongside this D3 had started to write and perform her own tracks, performing alongside Chipmunk and Shaggy.

D3 became a member of Hayashi, a live Jungle and Drum & Bass band. Hayashi performed all over the country in clubs and festivals, causing Denetta to leave LYA. D3 spent about 10 years with the band before enrolling into university to study her degree in Entertainment Management. She graduated in 2018.

Denetta also worked in festival and at live gigs as a steward manager or festival security admin. She was the production manager of the BBC Introducing stage at Latitude festival in 2016. This steady income depleted in 2020, causing D3 to concentrate on her own growth.

During the pandemic, D3 has spent the time preparing her long awaited album, Product of Society. The album tour will took place throughout 2022, kicking off with the first single ‘Check Me Out’, launched on the 21st of January in Northern Guitars. Denetta went on to play at Northern Green Gathering, Tribal Warrior festival and Punchbowl festival and supported 90s band, Arrested Development in 2022 amongst many other performances. She released her second single ‘Just Be’  in May 2022. D3 plans to release her album later this year.

She also set up a social enterprise Between the Lines with business partner Sarah Autumn. Between The Lines is a Community Arts organisation specialising in creative media projects which address the issues of the world and give voice to underrepresented communities.
