Dr Eva Carlsdotir Petersen

I am a researcher, practitioner, singer, songwriter, qualified lawyer, and lecturer in Popular Music at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), Liverpool, UK.

As an undergraduate, I studied Law at the University of Liverpool, completed a Barrister postgraduate qualification and was Called the Bar in England, UK in 2002. I worked for a non-for-profit organisation based in Liverpool within the field of Employment Law whilst studying for my PhD. I completed my PhD in February 2024 at Liverpool John Moores University. My research is interdisciplinary and is primarily concerned with addressing inequality within the music industry, particularly through the perspectives of law, history, context, visuals, and communication.

In the early 2000s I co-founded Liverpool band The Little Flames as lead singer and was signed to Deltasonic /Sony BMG. The band toured the UK, Europe and Japan with The Arctic Monkeys and The Coral and released their album The Day Is Not Today to critical acclaim. I have given many interviews with publications such as Mojo, Q, NME, The Guardian, The Independent, The Telegraph, Elle and also leading publications in Japan, and interviews with BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Merseyside in the UK, and with Japanese, American and European radio stations. I released my first solo album Emerald Green Eyes in 2012, in collaboration with Will Sergeant (Echo and the Bunnymen). The album was well received critically, including coverage in Mojo, Q and The Guardian. I released my second album Voices of Winter Palace in 2022, on limited edition 10” vinyl, Apple Music, and Spotify. I have recently recorded new material which is due for release late 2024.
