Francesca Ter-Berg is a multi-disciplinary artist originally from Hackney, London now living in Margate, Kent. Known for her unique cello playing style, she is a specialist in Klezmer music, a songwriter, composer, ethnographer and improviser. Francesca’s work explores the paradigm between the past and the present which she explores both in her live performances and studio work.
Francesca is one-half of critically acclaimed duo Fran & Flora (‘an album of beguiling beauty’ – Clive Bell, The Wire) whose debut album Unfurl was released in 2019 and nominated for several awards. Thier 2nd album will be released in early 2024.
She produces film scores and site-specific installation works, drawing on themes of identity in urban environments and the natural world. She has been commissioned by the Turner Contemporary and Margate NOW festival to make site specific work and was commissioned by the JW3/BFI in London to compose and original score for a series films from the BFI archive.
As a touring and recording artist she has collaborated nationally and internationally with Imogen Heap, Talvin Singh OBE, Sam Lee, Portico Quartet, SteamDown Collective, Riz Ahmed, Ashley Paul, Frank London (Klezmatics) and Cosmo Sheldrake and has performed at Glastonbury Festival, Café Oto, Kings Place, The Royal Festival Hall, EFG London Jazz Festival, Songlines Encounters Festival and WOMAD.
She regularly fascilitates workshops iin Klezmer, Creative Music and Improvisation at The Roundhouse, SOAS, Newcastle University, Goldsmiths, Yiddish New York and KlezFest London. She was interim director of the Klezmer Leaders Programme at the Brooklyn Conservatory.
Francesca’s debut EP In Eynem was released on the Phantom Limb label in 2021 and received critical acclaim (Best Experimental Music on Bandcamp, Quietus Best Releases of 2021).

Francesca holds a Masters Degree in Popular Music from Goldsmiths University and has conducted further studies at the New England Conservatory in Boston, USA. She has explored her practice on artist residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, Canada and at the PRAH Foundation in Margate.
