Heidi Fardell

Heidi Fardell is a freelance musician working as a performer, educator, writer and festival director. Specialising in the recorder and baroque flute, Heidi’s work is steeped in research and she is passionate about diversifying the classical canon and championing marginalised voices in early music. Heidi  performs with renowned early music ensembles across the UK and is a regular guest on the BBC Radio 4 show ‘Add to Playlist’.

In 2025 Heidi released her debut disc, a world premiere recording of Robert Valentine’s Opus 11 and her second recording, ‘Chez Jeanne Roger’ celebrating the work of the 18th century female publisher, is due out in 2026.

As a writer, Heidi has had several articles published: The Emotional side of music making (Musicians Union); Baroque Music & the profits of the transatlantic slave trade (Classical Music magazine); Neuro inclusive music teaching (The Recorder Magazine). And as a co-director of the Banbury Early Music festival, alongside 2 colleagues, established a successful festival of workshops, concerts and makers, that is quickly becoming a firm favourite in the early music calendar.

Alongside her performance work, Heidi is also a respected musician in education: a qualified BIFF music adjudicator, the chair of the European Recorder Teachers Association (ERTA UK), a tutor for the National Youth Recorder Orchestra and guest conductor for the Society of Recorder Players. Passionate about music education, Heidi has a wealth of experience whether it be tutoring at junior conservatoires, teaching children and adults 1:1 in her private practice or teaching in schools across London and Oxfordshire. In addition to her teaching work, Heidi has developed and delivered bespoke musical workshops for clients across including Kensington Palace, the Royal Festival Hall, Tate Britain and the National Gallery.

Heidi is a graduate of Goldsmiths University, Birmingham conservatoire and is currently studying her PhD at the Royal Academy of Music.
