Matchstick

Matchstick is the sole creation of Julie who started out in Nottingham and wound up in London in the 80s. Smashing any preconceptions about the correlation between new music and age, this 56-year-old has a keen eye on both fashion and music. She writes, performs and produces. Matchstick, brought up on the great icons and artists of the 1970s and 1980s, also listens to cutting edge playlists of today, drawing inspiration from both to tell stories and create her unique sound. It’s not unusual to unearth an artist or writer for the first time in their 50s, 60s, 70s or even 80s, but it would be a surprise, no, indeed a shock, for a middle-aged woman to be discovered by the music world. Because age is the last taboo. Matchstick has also written and released music with ‘The Sexton Blakes’, ‘Julie & Pamela’ and ‘Helloangel’.
