Commissioned for the BBC Proms in 2023, Sarah has a well-established career producing work for a wide range of performers including BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchesta of the Age of Enlightenment, City of London Sinfonia, London Handel Orchestra, as well as numerous ensmbles and soloists.  She has been commissioned for festivals including Spitalfields and Nottingham ‘NOW’ and for the Ruskin 2000 and Paston Papers celebrations. Her music for choirs includes works for North London Chorus and Islington Choral Society. Sarah has also written for theatre productions and a score for a film about the National Trust.

She has a special interest in cross-cultural music and has collaborated with celebrated artists from India and Japan.

Her work appears on four commercial recordings and is published by Stainer&Bell, OUP, Recital Music and Impulse Edition.

Sarah is a past Chairman of  Composers’ Guild of Great Britain, British Academy of Songwriters Composers and Authors (BASCA) and she is currently Chairman of PRS Members’ Fund.  In 2003 she founded British Composer Awards, now known as Ivors Classical Awards.

She lives in Norfolk with her wife, clarinettist, Geraldine Allen.
