Lips Choir

Lips Choir is a trans-inclusive feminist pop choir that have been performing and taking up space for more than a decade, growing from a small group of women who love to sing to a musical force to be reckoned with.

Led by dynamic musical director Jessie Maryon Davies, Lips create a wall of sound like nothing else – and with their powerful vocal performances, rowdy gigs, original arrangements and unique song choices have transformed the concept of ‘the choir’.

Having most recently performed a sell-out show at The Clapham Grand in 2019 marking their 10th anniversary, 2022 sees their first in-venue performance since the start of the pandemic with a much awaited two-night run of ApocaLIPS, happening on 12 and 13 October at the Clapham Grand.

Expect a massive harmonic pop explosion with Lips’ famous medleys. They’ll be singing Madonna, Lorde, Self Esteem, Dua Lipa, Garage mash-up and so much more. They will be joined by singer songwriter Yvette Riby Williams, known as NAALA and UK beatbox champion Grace Savage. The whole gig will be BSL interpreted and it’s going to be an absolutely smashing night!

Lips embrace musical influences from far and wide and right through the decades, from Chaka Khan and UK Garage to contemporary pop gems such as Christine and the Queens and Janelle Monae, as well as Kate Bush and Self Esteem arrangements.

Lips have collaborated with a whole host of renowned musicians and performers, having been handpicked by Alison Goldfrapp to perform alongside her at the Royal Albert Hall, describing them as “great singers with a wonderful musical sensibility”.

Other performances include sets at iconic London venues such as The Union Chapel, The Coronet and the Royal Festival Hall, and at festivals including Bestival, Standon Calling and Wilderness.

Lips use their platform to raise awareness of issues facing marginalised women including refugees and asylum seekers, and regularly fundraise for the charity Women for Refugee Women.
